Julie Albright is dealing with some massive changes since her parents got a divorce. When she finds out that her new school has a basketball team, life finally starts looking up. But there is a major problem: the coach tells her that girls are not allowed to play! Growing up in San Francisco in the 1970s, Julie knows that things need to change. She decides to fight for her rightful place on the team, even if it means almost losing her best friend in the process. Meanwhile, a big school project forces her to face some hard truths about her family and herself.
